PURPOSE To analyze the factors influencing visual field recovery in patients with pituitary adenoma following surgical treatment. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 144 eyes of 72 patients with pituitary adenoma who had been followed up for more than 6 months following surgery between January 2016 and December 2019. Pre and postoperative visual acuity, visual field test and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness were investigated. We defined recovery of visual field defects as being an impr...

BACKGROUND We report a case of atypical presentation of IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) with recurrent scleritis and optic nerve involvement. CASE PRESENTATION A 61-year-old male presented with ocular pain and injection in his left eye for 2 months. Ocular examination together with ancillary testing led to the diagnosis of scleritis, which relapsed in spite of several courses of steroid treatment. After cessation of steroid, the patient complained of severe retro-orbital pain and blurred vision. ...

BACKGROUND: We report a rare case of optic neuropathy following dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) in a 57-year-old female patient with May-Hegglin anomaly. CASE PRESENTATION: The patient was presented with sudden onset of vision loss for the left eye after DCR under general anesthesia. Her best corrected visual acuity was light perception in the left eye. Relative afferent pupillary defect was detected in her left eye. Magnetic resonance imaging of the orbit revealed an hyperintensity at the intra-orb...

Purpose: To investigate the biologic effects of preservative-free artificial tear drops on cultured human corneal epithelial cells in vitro. Methods: Efficacies of the preservative-free artificial tear drops-Kynex, Hyalein Mini 0.3%, and Refresh Plus-were evaluated using the MTT assay. Cell damage was determined using the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) assay. Cellular proliferation was determined using a migration and wound-healing assay. The ingredients of the drugs were analyzed. Apoptotic respon...

Purpose: To investigate the biologic effects of topical anti-allergic agents with H1-receptor antagonism and inhibition of histamine release from mast cells in the cultured conjunctival cells of patients with vernal keratoconjunctivitis in vitro. Methods: Conjunctival cells of vernal keratoconjunctivitis were exposed to the anti-allergic agents SCD-P101 (Fexofenadine, Samchundang, Korea), Patanol (Alcon, USA), Zaditen (Novartis, USA), and Azelan (Taejoon, Korea). Efficacy of the topical antihist...

Purpose: To evaluate the clinical outcomes of macular laser photocoagulation after intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide (IVTA) for macular edema in branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). Methods: In this retrospective study we reviewed the medical records of patients who had been treated with an intravitreal injection of 4 mg triamcinolone acetonide for macular edema due to BRVO and followed up for more than six months. We divided the eyes into two groups, namely, the IVTA-only group...
