Introduction: Octreotide; a synthetic analogue of Somatostatin; has been used successfully in palliative patients with excess gastrointestinal secretions. A number of respiratory patients experience cough with excess sputum production. We postulated that octreotide may reduce sputum volume and therefore improve symptoms.
