Thyroid transcription factor-1 (TTF1) regulates lung morphogenesis and differentiation, and its immunohistochemical expression is used for identifying lung neoplasms. The 8G7G3/1 antibody has been used in previous studies, but a different and more sensitive anti-TTF1 antibody, named SPT24, has become commercially available. Since the immunohistochemical expression of TTF1 in normal lung neuroendocrine (NE) cells has not been previously investigated and its utility in the diagnosis of lung NE tum...

Well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors (carcinoids) arising in the presacral space are rare neoplasms that can arise in association with either sacrococcygeal teratomas or tailgut cysts. Although tumors arising in tailgut cysts are more frequent than those associated with teratomas, they are still very rare, and only 13 cases have been reported in the literature. We describe the first case of a carcinoid composed of ghrelin-producing cells arising in a tailgut cyst. Ghrelin production was dem...

The simultaneous finding of submandibular ectopic thyroid tissue and functional orthotopic thyroid gland is an extremely rare event. The present report describes the case of a woman presenting with a left submandibular mass, distant from a palpable multinodular goitre. Ultrasonography showed an ovoidal solid mass adjacent to the lower margin of the left submandibular gland. Cytological specimens showed colloid material and thyroid follicular cells with no malignant features. A preoperative CT sc...
