Abstract Li1+xTi2-xAlx (PO4)3 (LTAP) x = 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and 0.7) compounds, prepared at 800 °C by sol-gel, have been studied by X-ray diffraction, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Scanning Electron Microscopy and Impedance Spectroscopy. The increment of lithium enhances Li–Li repulsions, favoring the creation of vacancies at the conduction paths intersection (M1 sites), increasing Li mobility along (… M1-M2-M1 …) channels in NASICON phases. The partial elimination of segregated AlPO4, LiAlP2O7 and LiT...

The effect of temperature on the network formation of polysiloxane hybrids was evaluated since this type of material is currently in high demand. In the last decades, the deposition of these coatings on different substrates, mostly metals, has demonstrated anticorrosion properties. Sol-gel hybrids were prepared by mixing 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTS) and tetramethyl orthosilicate (TMOS) with a molar ratio of 1. The formation, thickness and composition of these hybrid materials were...

The steel–concrete interface (SCI) is known to influence corrosion of steel in concrete. However, due to the numerous factors affecting the SCI—including steel properties, concrete properties, execution, and exposure conditions—it remains unclear which factors have the most dominant impact on the susceptibility of reinforced concrete to corrosion. In this literature review, prepared by members of RILEM technical committee 262-SCI, an attempt is made to elucidate the effect of numerous SCI charac...

Abstract Alkali-activated materials, which some authors often call geopolymers, can be described as inorganic solids that form three-dimensional networks with molecular structure similar to organic polymers, and are able to combine qualities similar to cements with those of traditional ceramics and zeolites. The polymerisation reaction takes place between solid aluminosilicate powders and alkaline solutions at low temperature and therefore this process is classified as eco-efficient. In addition...

Abstract The corrosion behavior duplex stainless steel rebars embedded in concrete exposed to natural chloride penetration has been carried out. Three duplex stainless steels (DSSs) differentiated in the Ni, Mo and Mn content and two types of concretes elaborated with different binders, Portland cement and Portland cement blended with Slag and Limestone, were employed. The corrosion behavior was followed through Ecorr and Rp measurements along the exposure period. The tests were extended up to c...

The reaction kinetics of four commercial ground granulated blast furnace slags with varying percentages of MgO (6 to 14 wt.%), activated with four different doses of sodium metasilicate, were evaluated using isothermal calorimetry. The reaction kinetics were strongly dependent on the dose of the alkaline activator used, and the chemical and physical properties of the slag. When using low concentrations of sodium metasilicate as an activator, the MgO content in the slag influences the kinetics of...

In alkali-activated slags (AAS), where ground granulated blast furnace slag is used as the main precursor, the presence of reduced sulfur species yields a highly reducing pore solution environment. This study investigates the influence of sulfide on steel passivation in alkali-activated slag mortars immersed in alkaline (1 M NaOH) and alkaline chloride-rich (1 M NaOH with 5 M NaCl) solutions, and the dependency of chloride-induced pitting on the immersion time and the concentration of sulfide in...
