Abstract Lithium–sulfur batteries have been recognised as highly promising next-generation batteries, due to their low cost and high theoretical energy density. Despite numerous advances in this technology over the last decade, its commercialisation is still a challenge that has not yet been achieved. Many efforts have been made to improve the problems that these batteries present, mainly by investigating different cathode manufacturing strategies, testing novel Li anodes, new additives in the e...

Separation of ethane-ethylene mixtures was evaluated using two zeolitic imidazolate frameworks, which are only different from the assemble metal, as stationary phase from Inverse Gas Chromatography data. The chromatographic profiles exhibited peaks adequately resolved. Separation is attributed to the pore sizes of the adsorbents which discern between ethane and ethylene molecule shapes and closed kinetic diameters. The adsorption heats were estimated for each probe molecule from the slopes of th...

In order to improve the photocatalytic response of the TiO2 to the UV and visible light for hydrogen photoproduction, low cost M/TiO2 semiconductor catalysts were prepared by impregnation method of five different first row transition metals (M = Fe, Co, Ni, Cu or Zn) on a commercial titania support. The maximum hydrogen production efficiency was achieved for Cu/TiO2 photocatalyst, ∼5000 and ∼220 µmol∙h-1∙g-1 for UV and visible irradiation, respectively. Ni/TiO2 and Co/TiO2 also showed a signific...

High-tech applications require increasing amounts of rare earth elements (REE). Their recovery from low-grade minerals and their recycling from secondary sources (as waste materials) are of critical importance. There is increasing attention paid to the development of new sorbents for REE recovery from dilute solutions. A new generation of composite sorbents based on brown algal biomass (alginate) and polyethylenimine (PEI) was recently developed (ALPEI hydrogel beads). The phosphorylation of the...

Abstract Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol of great importance in cosmetic, food and pharmaceutical industry as well as the production of biopolymers. This work aimed at the synthesis of sorbitol from the hydrogenation of glucose using Ru/Nb2O5 catalysts in the amorphous and crystalline phases. The catalysts were synthesized from the wet impregnation method and characterized by N2 adsorption isotherms, TGA/DTG, EDXRF, XRD, TPR-H2, XPS and SEM. The catalytic tests presented results of high conversion r...

Effects of the incorporation of Cr, Ni, Co, Ag, Al, Ni and Pt cations in titanate nanotubes (NTs) were examined on the NOx conversion. The structural and morphological characterizations evidenced that the ion-exchange reaction of Cr, Co, Ni and Al ions with the NTs produced catalysts with metals included in the interlayer regions of the trititanate NTs whereas an assembly of Ag and Pt nanoparticles were either on the nanotubes surface or inner diameters through an impregnation process. Understan...
Abstract With the growing demand of gold for research laboratories and industrial technologies, there is high needed to extract gold from related waste other than natural resources. Herein, we designed a novel adsorbent denoted as PCN-222-MBA (Thiol-functionalized PCN-222), by functionalizing Zr6-nodes of PCN-222 (PCN = Porous Coordination Network) with 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (MBA) through solvent-assisted ligand incorporation (SALI) approach for selective and facile extraction of gold ions from...

Abstract Ti- and Nb- containing NiO catalysts have been synthesized by two different preparation methods: i) by precipitation (Me-Ni-O oxides, Me = Nb or Ti), in order to prepare promoted NiO catalysts; and ii) by wet impregnation on TiO2 or NbOx supports, in order to prepare diluted/supported NiO catalysts. The catalysts have been also characterized and tested in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane. The catalytic performance of Ti- and Nb-promoted catalysts strongly depends on the compositi...
