A novel visible-light-induced coupling-cyclization of ortho-alkynylaryl vinylethers with arylsulfonyl azides has been described. This transformation provided a concise approach to access C3-exocyclic C═C bond/C2-alkylsulfone-tethered benzofurans via a solvent-leveraged carbosulfonylation and [2 + 2 + 3] cyclization. Primary mechanistic studies demonstrated that THF belongs to a crucial H atom source.

α,β-Unsaturated carbonyl compounds are significant moieties in many biological molecules and have attracted considerable attention in organic synthetic chemistry. A Pd-catalyzed cascade cyclization for the synthesis of (E)-α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds with the sequential formation of C-C bonds was developed. This method offers high efficiency, good functional group tolerance, and moderate to excellent yields and generally displays high stereoselectivity.

An unprecedented Pd/Rh cooperatively catalyzed arylalkynylation of alkynylsilanes was developed to merge an alkynylidene moiety with benzosilacycle. These silaarenes possess a particular aggregation-induced emission behavior. Mechanistic investigations demonstrate that the relay trimetallic transmetalation plays a pivotal role in governing this transformation.
