The measurement of uric acid based on the optical absorption at visible light spectrum is investigated and tested. Sensing in the visible region was conducted for determination of suitable wavelength that produces high sensitivity and accuracy performance based on the Beer-Lambert law calculation. In this work, the uric acid is detected by detecting sodium urate as a product of chemical reaction between uric acid with sodium hydroxide buffer. The setup has been tested for uric acid concentration...

Handwriting recognition is a comparatively popular research due to its diverse applicable environment. It helps to solve complicated problems and at the same time, it reduces manpower consumption. This paper proposes a system for recognizing online handwritten characters by using KNearest Neighbor (KNN). General steps of an algorithm are: (1) capturing the postcode and name of district area by using external web camera, (2) performing image processing on the image, (3) creating input data for KN...

The learning platforms for sign language are very limited. Images and videos are usually used to deliver the process of sign language learning. However, sign language is complicated and hard to practice. Thus, a vision-based American Sign Language (ASL) finger spelling recognition system is developed and presented in this paper. The aim of this project is to help users to learn and practice the sign language. ASL is the most common used sign language around the world. Five ASL finger spellings a...

This paper presents a fast and large-scale monitoring system for detecting one of the major cyber-attacks, Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS). The proposed system monitors the packet traffic on a subnet of unused IPs called darknet. Almost all darknet packets are originated from malicious activities. However, it is not obvious what traffic patterns DDoS attacks have. Therefore, we adopt a classifier and train it with traffic features of known DDoS attacks using 80/TCP and 53/UDP packets which ...

In this paper, we propose a new incremental learning algorithm of radial basis function (RBF) Network to accelerate the learning for large-scale data sequence. Along with the development of the internet and sensor technologies, a time series of large data chunk are continuously generated in our daily life. Thus it is usually difficult to learn all the data within a short period. A remedy for this is to select only essential data from a given data chunk and provide them to a classifier model to l...

This study focuses on developing a method to determine parameters to control cursor movement using noninvasive brain signals, or electroencephalogram (EEG) for brain-computer interface (BCI). Two conditions were applied i.e. Control condition where subjects relax (resting state); and Task condition where subjects imagine a movement. In both conditions, EEG signals were recorded from 19 scalp locations. In Task condition, subjects were asked to imagine a movement to move the cursor on the screen ...

Previously, the effects of external visual stimulation on cortico-muscular synchronization was studied and it was found that enhanced 8-12 Hz (alpha)/decreased 31-50 Hz (gamma) oscillations in the brain affect strength of the 13-30 Hz oscillation of cortico-muscular synchronization. In this paper, we study whether the 8-12 Hz enhancement/31-50 Hz decrement in the various brain regions are coupled together or not using cortico-cortical coherence analysis. The brain signals (EEG) and the muscle si...
