Abstract This work examines the susceptibility of methane hydrate in sand to fracture. The task is made difficult because of two challenges: (1) the means to conduct hydraulic fracturing experiments under high pressure and low temperature conditions, and (2) the formation of high saturation hydrate-bearing sand. A semi-analytical methodology is developed for the transient response of FGM annular sector plate with arbitrary circular boundary conditions. Abstract In the deepwater S-lay operations depending on the required stinger radius and rollers configuration, relatively large plastic deformation is induced when the pipe passes over the stinger, under the combined loadings of bending, axial tension, roller reaction force and the pipelay vessel motion. A trawl gear impact on an underwater pipeline can create a dent that pushes part of the pipe wall inward. External pressure also tends to push the wall inward.
