Purpose null Microbiomes have immunoregulatory functions and may be involved in the pathophysiology of eye diseases. However, the effects of microbiomes on uveitic glaucoma (UG) and open-angle glaucoma (OAG) have not been sufficiently investigated. This study analysed differences in eyelid and buccal microbiomes between UG and OAG using metagenomic technology. null Methods null Eyelid and buccal specimens were collected from 34 UG and 62 OAG patients. The taxonomic composition of the microbiome ...

PURPOSE To investigate the differences in the eyelid and buccal microbiomes between patients receiving long-term prostaglandin analogs for open-angle glaucoma (PG-OAG) and naive-OAG patients by using metagenomics. METHODS Eyelid and buccal samples were collected from 30 PG-OAG and 32 naive-OAG patients. The taxonomic composition of the microbiome was obtained via 16S rRNA gene sequencing, operational taxonomic unit analysis, and diversity analysis. Differential gene expression analysis (DEG) and...

To compare distant visual acuity (DVA) and near visual acuity (NVA) in amblyopia and evaluate if NVA can be used to diagnose amblyopia.A retrospective study was performed on 73 patients diagnosed with amblyopia based on DVA, by measuring their NVA and comparing the DVA and NVA. The NVA was measured by Snellen chart at 30 cm and the DVA was measured by Dr Hahn vision test chart at 5m. The patients' age, type of amblyopia, spherical equivalent, the difference between spherical equivalent and the f...

Objective. Tight glycemic control reduces the risk of diabetes complications, but it may increase the risk of hypoglycemia or mortality in elderly patients. This study is aimed at evaluating the incidence and progression of renal complications and its association with glycemic control in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods. This retrospective cohort study examined the data of 3099 patients with type 2 diabetes who were followed for at least 10 years at the Korean Veterans Hospital and...

Previous studies have reported the association of the S1 RNA binding domain 1 (SRBD1) gene with open-angle glaucoma in various ethnic populations. However, in those studies, the definition of the patients differed, as did the results. Therefore, the relevance of the SRBD1 gene to normal tension glaucoma (NTG) appears uncertain at present. Thus, we investigated the relationship between the SRBD1 gene and NTG in a Korean NTG cohort. In total, 159 unrelated Korean patients with NTG and 103 Korean co...

Background Previous studies have reported the association of HK2 and NCK2 genes with normal-tension glaucoma (NTG) in Japan, but there has been no follow-up study in other countries, so the relevance of these genes to NTG appears uncertain at present. Thus, we investigated the relationship between the HK2 and NCK2 genes and NTG in a Korean NTG cohort.
