BACKGROUND Leishmaniasis is caused by protozoans that depend on female phlebotomine sandflies as vectors. The natural habitat of these sandflies is changing due to climate change. More patients will get immunocompromised due to cancer therapy. CASE REPORT We report the case of a 72-year-old patient with melanoma in whom we found visceral leishmaniasis mimicking hepatic metastasis in routine FDG-PET/CT. The patient was hospitalized due to fever and pancytopenia in the general hospital Steyr. The ...

Imaging prostate cancer and metastases either by morphologic radiological approach or nuclear medicine methods has not fulfilled the expectations of the clinicians until several years. PSMA—prostate-specific membrane antigen—which can be labeled with positron-emitting isotopes mostly 68Ga—changed this setting substantially. Prostate cancer is the most common tumor entity in men worldwide and the third leading cause of cancer-related death in men in Europe and the USA. Biochemical relapse is a fr...

AbstractA 76-year-old man with prostate cancer pT2c N0 M0 R1 GS9 (4+5) operated 2009 and radiated postoperatively underwent restaging by 68Ga-PSMA-PET in January 2017 because of PSA rise at 0.44 ng/ml under medication with GnRH analogues. An intense focal uptake of the diffusely enlarged left adrena

A 60-yr-old woman presented with osteoporosis and atraumatic fractures of the spine and ribs in our neurological hospital in Linz, Upper Austria. She had a clinical history of bipolar affective disorder and cognitive decline, but the actual medical problem was lumbar pain. Treatment for osteoporosis already included bisphosphonates, vitamin D, and calcium. Endocrine evaluation for secondary osteoporosis revealed low TSH (0.17 U/ml) under prophylactic levothyroxine treatment (75 g/d) for multinod...

Purpose The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical value of the use of O-(2-[18F]fluoroethyl)-l-tyrosine (FET) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) in patients of a neurological clinic for evaluation of brain lesions newly diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Aim Detection of acute deep venous thrombosis (DVT) in patients presenting with clinical symptoms suggesting DVT and pulmonary embolism (PE) with 99mTc-apcitide, a synthetic polypeptide, binding to glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptors expressed on activated platelets is the objective of the study.
