Abstract null null Tungsten alloy balls are considered as one of the important candidate spallation targets for China initiative Accelerator Driven Subcritical System. The wear of these balls in the spallation target loop greatly affects their service life. In this work, the collective friction and wear of the balls at 250 °C were studied by using our self-developed equipment. The results reveal that the mass loss ratio of balls first rises and then falls, experiencing different stages, and its ...

Abstract In this work, congruent LiTaO3 crystals are irradiated by heavy ions Fe, Xe, and Bi respectively at fluence range of 1×1012∼2×1015 cm−2. The effects of heavy ions irradiation are studied by using optical transmission spectroscopy, Rutherford backscattering, optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction. Heavy ion irradiation presents a unique effect in transmission spectra which is quite opposite to the previous reported results of light ions irradiation. The latter could often cause a signific...

Abstract This work has demonstrated the feasibility to modulate the refractive index of YAG crystal at variable depths via electronic energy depositions of argon ions. Surface and buried cladding waveguide layers of various geometries were successfully created, which are capable of effective light confinement and guidance at infrared waveband of 1064 nm. Refractive index profiles of irradiated layers were reconstructed in a reasonable manner according to the variations of electronic stopping pow...

In order to provide a basic understanding on the effect of H on He behaviors in the structural materials for the future nuclear systems, the effect of H on He thermal desorption and retention behaviors in SIMP steels was studied using thermal desorption spectroscopy(TDS), scanning electron microscope(SEM), and transmission electron microscopy(TEM) by comparing the results of the alone irradiation of 130 keV He+ and the sequential irradiation of 130 keV He+ and 160 keV H2+. The TDS results show t...

Abstract The synergistic effect of irradiation and Lead Bismuth Eutectic (LBE) corrosion on structural materials is of vital importance for the research and development of future lead cooled nuclear energy systems. A Heavy Liquid Metal and Irradiation Facility (HLMIF) was therefore designed and constructed at National Laboratory of Heavy ion Accelerator in Lanzhou. The facility provides a capability to use heavy ions in situ to irradiate a specimen in simultaneous contact with flowing LBE. In th...

Abstract Helium solutions at eight symmetric tilt grain boundaries (GBs) in tungsten (W) have been investigated through first-principles calculations. The GBs are constructed by the coincidence site lattice (CSL) model and all interstitial sites at GBs are identified with convex deltahedra. For each GB, helium atom prefers to dissolve in interstitial sites with the lowest charge density. Interactions between the helium atom and the GBs atoms are rather localized for all eight GBs studied here, a...

Abstract The pure tungsten was implanted with 500 keV helium (He) ions to a fluence of 1.0 × 1017 ions/cm2 at RT and 800 °C. After the implantation, cross-sectional transmission electron microscope (TEM) and nano-indentation measurements were used to investigate the He bubbles and hardness profiles induced by He implantation. Visible He bubbles were observed only in the damage peak region at RT but in the whole damage region at 800 °C. The size of He bubbles at 800 °C increased with increasing d...
