RESULTS: Data relative to 160 subjects (94 males, 66 females, age 49.6 ± 13.6 years) were analyzed. In all, 51 (32 % ) subjects had hyperamylasemia, 9 (6 % ) hyperlipasemia, and 100 (62 % ) an increase in both enzyme levels. The time between the fi rst increased dosage of serum pancreatic enzymes and our observation was 3.3 ± 3.9 years (range: 1 - 15). Familial pancreatic hyperenzymemia was observed in 26 out of 133 subjects (19.5 % ). Anatomic abnormalities of the pancreatic duct system at s-MR...

conflicting opinions, a consensus review determined the final diagnosis. Results: Sixty-five cases were available for review. Stage 1 (n=27) yielded descriptive findings of images associated with epithelial structures, pancreatic parenchymal structures, floating structures, and unknown. Cases in Stage 2 (n=38) were reviewed blindly in a consensus fashion by 5 investigators. Due to insufficient information available for a consensus diagnosis, 7 cases were excluded. Presence of epithelial villous ...

s / Pancreatology 13 (2013) S2–S98 S10 sequenced using next generation sequencing (Illumina GAIIx) in 5 pancreatitis and 5 control patients, heterozygous for the p.N34S variant. Identified sequence variants were then filtered based on their increased frequency within chronic pancreatitis patients, revealing 7 haplotype segments. Seven variants (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms), one selected within each haplotype segment, were then screened in 38 pancreatitis patients and 20 controls (both groups...

Autoimmune pancreatitis is a disease characterized by specific pathological features, different from those of other forms of pancreatitis, that responds dramatically to steroid therapy. The pancreatic parenchyma may be diffusely or focally involved with the possibility of a low-density mass being present at imaging, mimicking pancreatic cancer. Clinically, the most relevant problems lie in the diagnosis of autoimmune pancreatitis and in distinguishing autoimmune pancreatitis from pancreatic canc...

tissue acquisition (EUS-FNTA) utilizing a 19-gauge needle to obtain tissue samples for histological diagnosis and Ki-67 expression in patients with suspected PETs. Material and methods: 25 consecutive patients (mean age 54±15 yrs; M/F 11/14) with suspicious of PETs on previously performed imaging studies who, between August 2009–September 2010, underwent attempted EUS-FNTA using a 19G needle. The collected specimens were placed directly in formalin for histological examination. Results: All pati...
